Jenny McConnell

Driven by the need to understand and reflect on our connections with each other and our environment, my work is an investigation into both my past and present experiences. There is usually a narrative being explored as I create, sometimes based in historical fact and empathy for another, unpacking relationships, layered in meaning and metaphors. Giving voice to someone who may have been silenced or no longer present to tell their story. Sometimes an image can exist where words are difficult. The healing nature of my practice brings me back over and over.

I work in a multidisciplinary approach. My art process includes collection of nostalgic images and photographs of my immediate environment and an editing process of layering, reveal and conceal.

I live and work in the Northern Rivers of NSW on Bundjalung country and respectfully acknowledge Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples as the Traditional Owners and custodians of the land and pay respects to Elders past, present and emerging.
